New Perspectives on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Early diagnosis and treatment of COPD seems to be of paramount importance, and efforts are being devoted to the diagnosis of pre-COPD and COPD in young individuals. Consequently, we can no longer rely on the traditional paradigm of COPD as a disease diagnosed based on a decline in lung function and always after 60 years of age. Identification of risk factors would provide targets for preventive treatments, which may eventually pave the way for the eradication of COPD.
